Parkway West High School Lacrosse club FAQ
Is the program affiliated with Parkway West High School?
Lacrosse is a club sport. We can use the name of the school but we do not get any financial support nor do we use any Parkway High School fields.
Does my son have to attend Parkway West High School?
He has to reside in the Parkway West School District. He may be home schooled or attend a private school that does not offer lacrosse. Our ideal roster is approximately 75 players for all teams combined.
How much does it cost to participate?
We try to keep a reasonable participation cost. The registration fee is typically approximately $275.00. This fee also covers the $35 US Lacrosse Association yearly dues. In addition, uniform deposit fees are $100.00 for home and away jerseys. ( $70.00 will be returned when jerseys are returned at the end of the year.) New players will also need to buy game shorts at $35 per pair. Make checks payable to "Parkway West Lacrosse Club". We do not take credit cards at this time. If there is more than one player in a household, the second and subsequent registrations cost $225. Under no circumstances will a player be able to participate in practice or games without the complete payment of fees.
What about equipment and uniforms?
Players supply their own equipment including stick, helmet, mouth guard (required to participate), pads, and shoes. A protective cup is also considered mandatory. The club provides a home and away jersey for each player. There is a $100 uniform deposit collected at the start of the year. When both jerseys are returned at the end of the year, $70 is refunded, Each player must also provide their own game shorts, available at a cost of $35. Practice jerseys are available for order at the start of the year. Boys may supply their own as long as it is reversible with dark on one side and white on the other. If you have any questions about a practice jersey being acceptable, contact one of the coaches.
What is the refund policy?
If full payment of dues was made and a player resigns from the club before the first practice there will be a full refund of the total minus the USLA fee. We can not refund the USLA fee. If a player resigns after the first practice, but before Spring Break, the refund is $100. After Spring Break, there will be no refunds. For uniform deposits, 100% refund is made if a player resigns or suffers a season-ending injury before the first game is played, assuming the uniform is returned. After the first game is played, the uniform refund is $70.
Where does the money go?
Registration fees go toward coaches salaries, officials, field upkeep, tourney fees, insurance, MSLA dues, team balls, team equipment, etc. Each player will receive a Parkway Longhorn Lacrosse tee shirt with their paid registration.
When does practice start and where are they held?
We start on the first day that the high school spring sports start, which is Feb. 25 in 2008. Practice starts around 3:30-4:00pm. We practice at Parkway West Middle school. We practice every day after school.
What if he misses a practice?
Your player needs to let the coach know about missing a practice. Practices are very important and are considered mandatory. From time to time other events and activities designed to foster teamwork will require player participation.
When do the league games start?
League play begins in mid March. Teams may participate in jamborees or tournaments before league play begins. Freshman games may begin in April. Games are typically held on weekdays. However, there will be several weekend games scheduled, if possible, so that parents or friends who otherwise might have difficulty seeing games will be able to attend.
Where are league games played?
Home games are played at Parkway West Middle School on Baxter Road. Away game locations are dependent upon the opponent and the facility that they use for games.
Will there be out-of-town travel?
Occasionally the team will play games in Columbia or Kansas City, MO. Additional out of town trips may be scheduled for Spring, 2008. These games are typically varsity or JV level games. Players and parents must provide, our arrange for their own transportation. We will attempt to identify locations for lodging for out-of-town games and arrange for a block of rooms if possible. Parents and players are responsible for food and lodging expense.
